Overview

Provide leadership and assistance to elementary, middle, and high school and learning community staff. Provide monitoring and training on best practices for the social, emotional, mental, and behavioral wellbeing of students.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certification in educational leadership or administration and supervision.
  2. Master’s degree School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or Psychology preferred.
  3. Assistant Principal or Principal experience preferred.
  4. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in education.
  5. Demonstrated success in working with students who have social, emotional, or mental health needs.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of leadership, organization and management theory and practice. Knowledge of teaching and learning processes. Knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health programs and initiatives as well as researched-based best practices. Knowledge of Florida anti-bullying statutes and policies. Possess understanding of elementary, middle, and high school guidance functions. Knowledge of mental health counselor functions and exceptional student education compliance for mental health counselors. Ability to create and implement comprehensive programs in the areas of mental, social, emotional, and behavioral health. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, facilitate group consensus, and planned decision-making. Understands that quality teaching and learning are the essential processes and product of public schools and has the ability to focus resources toward this goal.

REPORTS TO: Senior Executive Director, Student Services

SUPERVISES: Senior Administrator, Mental Health Services (2), Program Specialists and Application Specialist IV

Machines, tools, equipment, electronic devices, vehicles, etc., used in this position. Telephone, Computer, (Personal Computer and Mainframe), Automobile, Copier

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Describes physical conditions of this position.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

Note: Will total more than 100 percent as several activities may be performed at one time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Conditions the worker will be subject to in this position.

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
* Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
* Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
* Monitor successful development of social, emotional, and mental health programs.
* Plan professional development for personnel responsible for social, emotional, and mental health initiatives.
* Monitor the use of mental health services within OCPS as well as support SEDNET and referral to outside counseling organizations.
* Foster communication amongst stakeholders from various departments for increasing student achievement.
* Collect, analyze, and compose data reports.
* Inform supervisor through written and oral reports, of issues related to the student management system.
* Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines and the district’s instructional initiatives.
* Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
* Develop leadership in subordinates.
* Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
* Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
* Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends, and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

* Essential Performance Responsibilities

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Non-bargaining unit compensation plan, twelve months, 8.0 hours per day.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
